Leadership defined

"If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one."        ~ Mother Teresa

The Business Insider posted  12 ways to become a charismatic leader and I took note because leadership is one of my favorite topics.  Not because I, myself, am in a position of leadership in my career.  However, I have worked with and for some phenomenal leaders.

The Richter scale of social influence

As one climbs the Richter scale of social influence, comes a responsibility.   Charisma is often associated with power and paid attention to.

As your following grows, so does the likelihood of clicks on articles you share.  If you are trying to become noted in the stratosphere, it is important to consider your reputation ... and what topics or topic you want to be known for.

Consistency pays dividends.

In her book,  " The Charisma Myth:  Olivia Fox Cabane's says that people aren't born with charisma. They acquire it through knowledge and practice.

As a student and observer, I want to learn and adopt the attributes of a social media leader.  If you are midway, starting out, or think you've arrived, consider these important lessons.

The law of attraction:

You don't have to be the prettiest lady or handsomest man to be at the top.  It helps to be attractive, but more importantly, your profile photo should communicate professionalism, confidence, poise and friendliness.

Engagement:

You interact with people.  You recognize those that take the time to comment, share, #RT or respond to you.  The talented ones will reply to you in a manner that you feel they've been paying attention to you.

Consistency:

It is sometimes difficult to be ever-present.  Yet their are tools available to help you along the way.  You can thank people for their follow, share, #RT even if you are away working in real life, or participating in real life.  I plan to write about some of my favorite tools under a different post: so stay tuned.

Attitude

Regardless of how many followers you have or the level of Klout you've been awarded with you have to remember that you were once at the bottom.  Don't forget that ever.  If you fail to acknowledge those that hold you in high esteem and only reply to those you think are on your level, or above, your star can fade.

Association:

Be aware of who or what you are saying.  It may become your destiny.  People are not drawn to rants, they are drawn to inspiration, motivation, knowledge and positiveness.  Similarly, for all the good you may do, sharing a porn post or image can disassemble all the good work you have done.  Case in point, I use a tool that shares the best images, yet sometimes nudity or erotica slips through.  I will go back and delete it.  Not because I am a fuddy-duddy, but because it is not who I am or what I want to be known for.

Authenticity:

Be authentic.  People can sense this.  Unless you're a celebrity or politician that people follow because they want to watch how far you will push the envelope, you should be honest and trust-worthy.  Don't fall into the trap of voicing others, adopting as your own.  You will be caught.  The information is out there.

Authority:

Don't call yourself an expert at anything.  That isn't for you to define.  It is a description that others award you with.  That doesn't mean you don't share, post or write about matters that you can convey confidence in.  For example, I write about sales success based on my own experiences.  I have the awards and recognition to back it up.  I've never been recognized online for anything.  My blog has never been included on any watch or read list.  Yet I'm comfortable sharing what I know because it was real.

Attentive:

Pay attention to what is going on.  If you decide to participate in a conversation or viral campaign, you can inject your opinion because you have paid attention.

Recognition:

You have the ability to recognize talent.  You congratulate others achievements.  You champion their discoveries and you become a cheerleader to many people or causes that resonate with you.  If you become a champion yourself, you do it because you want to help, not to capture a piece of the pie for yourself.

Ego:

You don't have to have a big ego to be successful.  Yet often many forget their roots and let their ego self go in their stead.  If that is who or what you want to be known for then continue at your own peril.  Eventually, people will see it for what it is and find someone more authentic to heed.

Accredit:

Don't fall into the trap of being a victim of your own voice, tweets, or posts.  Take the time to give credit to the artist, creator, musician, photographer you are sharing.  Some step on those who gave them a boost up and are captive to their own stuff.  Forgetting to mention where it came from, least others perceive it as your own creation:  that is stealing.

Variety:

Don't become lazy and only rely on posting images, tagging others to increase your reputation.  Lend support and give variety to what you share.  Take two seconds and like, share or #RT something from one of your supporters, because that can add flare and interest.  You will be multi-dimensional and more intriguing.

Visibility:

Don't become too ingrained in one platform.  Be visible everywhere, re-inforcing your reputation and champion of others, positive messages or inspirational creations.

Write:

Author a blog on matters that appeal to you and the likelihood it will find you a following.  Be a content creator:  the true currency of social media.  A storyteller and informer.  Others may dabble in your discoveries or flock to your words.

Believe:

Believe in yourself, be passionate for your cause, be honest in your interactions.  That is where the fuel is hidden that will leap you in front of those that matter:  the ones who find you matter.  Don't give up.  Be patient.  Your turn will arrive.  It just may not be the way you had planned, the journey can be different while the ultimate goal remains the same.

Warmth:

Be known for your warmth.  A safe haven to many.  An example for the discouraged.  You won't be known for warmth, if you are exuding power or ego.  Be satisfied if one person heard you.  You don't need to shout above the noise.   Have a reputation of kindness, be a leader in goodness, promote peace and humanity.  Share your knowledge for the goodness of everyone.

Confidence:

Be true to yourself begets confidence in your message.  It is easy to doubt yourself or compare yourself with others.  Be sure you are unique.  Be the example you have always wanted to have.  You are not an imposter if you are saying your own words.  You have just not been discovered yet.

Fame:

Notoriety is the path you set on customized to your voice.  Fame is fleeting while notoriety lives forever.  What is your legacy?  What would you want to be remembered for?  Are you on a path towards a great destiny?  Will it be to help others, lead the way, uncover great opportunities?  Those should be your goals, not fame.

Fortune:

Money is considered important in various degrees.  What it means to different people is a formula that can be unique.  Good fortune does not always happen in currency.  It can mean happiness, health, love, family, knowledge.  Philanthropy is bestowed upon only the very few of wealth with the privilege to do something with it.  Only a few do.  Define your own good fortune.  Mine is creativity.  It allows me to appreciate my unique talent in a way that allows me to embrace happiness, health, love, family and accumulate more knowledge.  To be shared.  To make the world a better place.

Statement:

Set about to create your own mantra.  A statement about who you are and what you want yourself and the few you are lucky enough will follow you.  I want to be surrounded by talented people who work hard to make the world a kinder one.  I hope to help others become remarkable.  In their own way, in their own voice.  As their champion and cheerleader.

#bethebest of #bestofeverything

Cutest baby ever!!  I guess I'm ready for a grandson or granddaughter eh?

IMAGE:  is my face saying "oh crap, caught on camera!" like this gem, or catching your attention to established true #klout as the author/initiator of #bestofeverything hashtag for the populace.

The early adopters will be the #socialmedia #influencers:  who really know that networking in the www.sphere is truly the most amazing experience, very few grow inner awareness that channels.  Those people who become authorities on relationships: networking, friendship, talent pool, think tank who rise above the rafters from the very big, crowded, noisy environment.

Almost to the heavens in the proud connection that would blow the mind anyone not a member of this very unique club.  A lot of the offshoots of superstardom stemmed from the use of #hashtag on Twitter.  These very clever folk traded ideas around and formed this very safe, secure web of trusted peeps, tweeps or simply said friends.

Some of us emerged as visionistic visionaries:  purveying information, usually connected, fueled and powered by their passion.   Others became notable names in the traditional media via their writing for big brand media names or dominance in print ::: to allow them to emerge as a bigger, stronger, collaborative, connected to mindset:

BIG example being MASHABLE.

Now that I've been a Blogger for only five years, I am humbled by the visionary risk they took, expelling the most compelling sources of news via media.  They are so "finger on the pulse" that what we are thinking, buying, considering or evaluate partaking in.  To whom they have extended to the Millennials attitude, capturing that audience as well.

MASHABLE's unique perspective:

Appeals to such a wide, ginormous mass audience.  As any over-achiever usually does, I evaluate:

  •  what I am doing,
  • wonder what I should be doing,
  • am I doing what I should.

T
hat inner reflection implodes a mass of stronger goals, beliefs, values that become deal makers or deal breakers.  Only the very elite will really GET this.  They can relate.  They may be a champion, a leader, a successor of a train of this powerful voice.  As mentioned, as some have already re-immersed themselves back  into the mainstream fold, to observe, take in, understandhumanizeintellectualize so that they can bring it back to the very few (in comparison) crowd of GETTers and GO-GETTERS.

Which one will you be?  Have you decided?  Well, you will if your inner quest sent out to the universe or God or Allah to send back your path. (your cheat sheet, Coles Notes, memory bank).

I hope you will stay for the ride with me, laugh over our journey of understanding our true purpose, so that others can eventually celebrate this as one of your accomplishments.  The further upward mobile you become, the far-reaching and widespread you will be recognized for.

Two amazing people from forever ago:  Helen Keller and Charlie Chaplin

Some of you already of you have.  Others unsettled looking for a new reinforcement of staying firm with your goals, your antennas on high alert on something that resonates with you, and have discovered a club of and for the gifted, enlightened, creative force.

The catch being, you cannot join the force, unless you recognize it within you.  There will be mentors, chaperones , winers and emoters standing on the sidelines cheering you on and push you to strive higher and better.

Each individual having a unique goal that can almost be linked to DNA.

tenacity TRUST follow up

I'm pretty pleased with myself because I am here once again, in my commitment to give insights to what characteristics identify a potentially top performer in sales.

Just so we're clear, however, I want to emphasize that the three qualities identified:  tenacity + TRUST + follow-up are inter-twined.

I recognize that I may have made recruiters' jobs a tad more challenging by stating that these three characteristics go hand in hand with the ideal candidate for sales superstardom.

  • Tenacity:  those that are committed to a career in sales have one common trait, that is uncommon. They don't give up easily.  If you happen to be in their horizon or sphere of targeted prospect, be ready for a ride.  They might write, call, email or post to get your attention that you should be talking to them.  They have a value proposition that will solve a business need that they just know will make your business' life easier.  Why? Likely because they have an uncanny ability to instinctively identify the ideal prospect and set out to understand everything that makes you tick.  That is before they even hit a keyboard or pick up the phone.  They more than likely know who your customers are, who your competitors are and play to that.  They may sense that their offering will be a winner for you, even if you haven't figured that out yet.

  • TRUST:  they give off the air that they are not solely intelligent, charismatic enough to be on your team.  They portray an aura of trust.  You instinctively sense that they have your best interests at heart while simultaneously achieving their own goals.  They call or follow up when they say they will.  They start at the top, because really only the important top executives will recognize that this smart, pro has communicated in a fashion that mirrors your values, image and goals.  In other words, they will make you look fantastic in others' eyes for trusting this new avenue or approach ... and it pays off.

  • Follow up:  Forget the over-promise and under deliver -- these keeners will do what they say they will.  And, if you think you're savvy, you've got nothing on them:  they have a diary, calendar, Outlook system that would make the most gifted project manager blush.  They may have their own system for following up, or they may utilize the tools available to make them a stellar professional:  a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tool.  When they are following up, they have all the details on what they perceived resonated with you, or you told them.  They know the who, what, why and where your problem lies, or what they have to solve them.

Pretty simple?  You'd think so.  Yet, only the very BEST have these combined attributes.  Your talent recruitment system may have some identity metrics, but not as captivating as this.   Think about it, your recruitment process is to try to fit a
square peg into a round hole.  Yes, you have search power to make it easier to cast out a web of candidates, but you haven't identified these important qualities have you?  Trust me, they're important.

Get out of your own self-absorbed importance and open your eyes to what qualities make the best in your camp:  tenacity, TRUST and follow up!

super STARS!

Today is my Friday.  Yip-e-DO~DA!

I had started to reflect on promises I want to make, and to really internalize it and strive to make it happen.  I have started to put into practice the great qualities are to succeed in sales into my own life.  Huh?  Well, think about it:  if you can't keep a promise to yourself, how can you ever find meaning?

I mentally rehearsed my practice, most likely several times, then I put it into writing.  What blogging allows me to do is put ideas to practice.  The ones that bloom from instinct, creativity and intelligence with strong economic value.

It went something like this .... I treasure most of my really great mentors and friends.  They will instinctively know who they are.  Some could be someone I mentored to help others.   This particular friend who was not only a mentor AND A friend, they were and are a CHEERLEADER.  Most of my strongest connections are those that treasure my values, because they know that is my biggest currency in life.  Profoundly amazing, very often humbling by either an example to live by or someone very strong and mild.

LOL, I could sidetrack about personality identifications, another hobby of mine, added to social media, blogging, and student of demography.

This very great friend/mentor/cheerleader kind of asked me or told me, see how wise they are because I couldn't tell which.  Why ... DO...nt.....YOU....Blog more about sales again?  So, that's been brewing at the back of mind and decided to put it into practice.  Write more about sales.  Then I wanted the re-entry to be remarkable and outstanding.  Something of which only the greatest of sales man or lady could relate to:  What are the things that can be identified in characteristics which you would probably use to identify the biggest of super star (actuals or traits) to pluck out of the very narrow talent pool.

So the theory will soon show through.  If applied, and it works WONDERbar! If it doesn't?  Go back to the START over!  What are some of the unique characteristics of only the SUPER STARS?  The audience can decide if it believable or the participators can verify if it is foolproof.

Kind of where your own answers, or experiences, or success are going to collect into a group of the super super achievers.  Or, a humble super achiever (sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself) is just getting these amazing results that is taking her or him really high in achievement and he or she starts to wonder if it is a stroke of luck, they're being imposters, or they actually can relate!  That is the test of social media and the #bestofeverything ... can a common voice push up one common trend among all the networking sites?  That's part of THAT experiment.

So, today to a) write about sales, and b) talk about, or start with, what defines a super star?  Exceeding the results of which the top 25 percent of the population have barely entered.  Another sidebar and thought process tugging to the left .... can it be defined with association by the most gifted in so many offshoots like music, artistry, writing, designers, imagineers,

So, I'm going to start with some of the things that I come up with that would make me think in sales terms that may make me different than the molded corporate suit, adaptable and creative.  LOL, jumping ahead just a tad bit.

Here we go:  what are the most unique qualities about me (as it may relate to business, management, marketing, sales or social media; with an ability to launch new initiatives).  Besides those I guess, here they are:

1) FREAKAZOID:  Maybe one of the freadazoid things about me, and what may have happened to allow me to achieve success in sales is because I actually like creating a "TO DO" list.   (Can you imagine how thriving I am because it is my Friday, and I am going to lux in extasy creating this LIST).

2) LAID BACK or DRAMA QUEEN? For as lax adaxial as I may seem, underneath the bubbly, energetic and often wise demeanor, to the point.  Yes, no, I'll get back to you within _____ hours or minutes and tried to never miss that.  I can go from leaning in attentive to stand at attention and create motivation!

3)  ENERGETIC or STOID?  If you ask people who know me or have met me, they're first description will almost always be to describe me:  ENERGETIC.  Then they sense this scrutiny, taking it all in and sounding it all back:  must mean a STOID!  Especially, when crafting a proposal or crunching numbers.

4)  HONEST TO A FAULT.  Okay, I was just cheating because if you read 3) you have connecting some other really great attributes among ENERGETIC or STOID, crafting proposals or crunching numbers.    But really great SUPER STARS seem to be trusted automatically.  These folks greatest indignity is when trust is given and abused.

5)  TRUST< TRUSTED<TRUSTING.  Amazing if you put those three qualities behind a character, you will uncover one of the most uncanny talented contributions.  How many people in your life can you can identify by those three things:  trust+trusted+trusting.  I would challenge to find those three ingredients combined multiply in being a SUPER STAR.

Well, folks.  That is a start within the world of sales.  I am moving on to new goals, slowly being discovered.  The potential within me, and by that karma will attract the most remarkable people.  That are either a) identified as one or b) want to be one.

You may likely stay tuned.  I would be very appreciative if you subscribe, even if you hardly ever visit.  I'm not asking you for money, while I share my secrets to the world.  To demonstrate the difference between online editorial or traditional printed media.

There are more qualities I will share.  I just ask if you visit more than once, subscribe.  I won't force you to comment (never works anyhow except with the inauthentic "I'll scratch yours if you scratch mine" membership).

I discovered this article on Business Insider  after I had written this post three days ago, and found it worthy to include this.  What struck me is its reinforcement of what I was getting at:  you can be competent and intelligent, however, if people don't deem you trustworthy, they may negatively perceive you!

Oh, if you know of anyone who may want a leg up online advertising:  share the link to my blog and let them know that I have a few spots available, at wholesale, not third party rates.  I haven't assigned any numbers, as I originally said before New Year's, that I would accept bids.

You see, I am tenacious.  Another extreme quality that I'll throw in.  Those that are can identify with and others want those qualities, will tell others, that there is a fairly unique concept of blogging and sharing images that could be an advertisement (which is really a .jpeg) that I can upload as an image after I'm paid with currency or crapola in kind.

The above image was extrapolated from a long ago Google search.  I do that sometimes:  look for one thing and another one snaps into view so you save later and use.  That is the case of this caricature:  I think it is to resemble Cameron Diaz.  It isn't as much as the physical resemblance as the exuberance of attitude that grabbed me.  My vibe, my charisma, it captured in that image.  Thanks to the artist. (unknown)

Hey guys and gals,

If you like my sales, marketing, social media and business side, you may like to read about my more personal side of life in Meanderings about ... being a fabulous fashionista fighting her fifties.  I just share some of the things I like on the sidebars, which sometimes I update as I go along, or when it strikes me.

Or, the expulsion of my hobby about demography The inBETWEENers where I ponder, research and exude theories and fact about characteristics of those born from 1960 to 1965, neither Baby Boomer nor Generation X.

Appreciate it.  Thanks to all my Facebook and Twitter fans!  You really are the #bestofeverything ... remarkable, talented, intelligent: who look for the #bestofeverything ... always.

If you want me to give you a hand, pop me a note to optioneerjm@gmail.com to see what I can do.
Happy New Years!
Continued success in 2016,
Jeannette

Smooth, soft to the touch and embraces you

All about the magazines ..... you would almost think I was talking about physical intimacy wouldn't you?  Naw, of course not, that's not like me to talk about that stuff on a blog... yet, LOL.

I miss the mass of magazines I used to accumulate and in a scattered pile.  The pillar of my information, absorbed, read and experienced in my chosen leisure time.  When I could have soft music playing and a fireplace on, creating the ambiance of the world I was entering:  a magazine.

Today, when I got home, like most of us do, at least twice a day to the millions of people who some appear nonchalant about, while some can barely lift their eyes from the smartphones no matter where they are, driving, on the bus, under the desk, feet up on the desk pretending like it is a really important email from a client or shareholder or employee, or handset glued to the ear as if what you are listening to FAR exceeded in importance in no matter what you are doing: a seminar, a meeting, or online company page.

I drifted off from my point for a few seconds.  As often I do when I'm hit with a flurry of ideas or responses to something I read, and sometimes I hear.

I was inspired so overwhelmingly, I rolled up my sleeves and composed a comment.  Again, perhaps some spend their days posting and commenting lest somebody forget that they're online.  I don't very often.  I want to far more.

I admit that as a huge fan and connoisseur of magazines, my attention will drift to the better known and simultaneously printed magazines, first before any online avenue.

I often detour to read one major player's articles first before the scattering of other noise posted on various social media.  In this instance, I saw a distance from writing perspective.

One can't help but understand that traditional printed media who are defining their online power, default to Bloggers.  I am even connected to this writer on Linked In and read his/her posts there.  So, I clicked on the article seeing the title and who it was issued by default

I observed some disturbing things:

The most glaring error of NOT editing Bloggers is the key differentiator:  Bloggers are typically selling themselves, their beliefs and promoting their services, shouting  "for sale, FOR SALE" to rise among the noise.

Typically, as a traditional magazine avid fan, it is not hard for me to gravitate towards magazines over newsprint, as I did today.  I always relate traditional magazines as credible, carefully crafted design, and intimacy with its readers which they feel embraced by this safety net.

Alas, the distinction is blurred to my grave dismay.  I discovered this article included by an online self-promoter, Blogger, expert, social media personality all tied into one.  It was a quick scan, not even an absorbed read (which the intellectual online reader is, above average in intelligence), it was ablaze with me, I and my.

Slipped through the cracks of editorial review, where now is too late, the distinction of credible traditional magazine experience, was lost.  Real writers don't talk about themselves, they lose themselves in their topic or their characters or subjects.

It is a huge disservice to loyal readers who have graceful swayed from the printed environment to the online environment.

People forget that magazines are about the experience, where fact checking is taken for example, and rarely without editorial hand.  If you are going to give Bloggers a spin, don't allow them to promote their spin.  They should talk to their subject and let their words stand.  Just like.  Beautifully touching (sliding sheets) softly dimmed (photographic brilliance) where the naive think that most just read it for the ads, like Vogue.  The most gifted presentations allow the readers' eyes to drift from article to advertisement to advertorial, with little differentiation with a lot of trust in hand.

Now that online former credible printed magazines have been overtaken by Bloggers, they will dimmer and diminish among the noise trying to become noticed in a crowded clouded assembly of just about anybody.

WHOLESALE blog advertising: a brave new www

Remember about a month ago when this blog was up for bid with the deadline all set for midnight New Year's eve, with the closest to the second would be deemed the highest bid? Then SOLD!  Well, that was a pretty basic idea for untapped potential to marketers:  where the steak doesn't sizzle out, the clouded crowded environment doesn't drown you out.

I know, I didn't share a dollar amount so I could imagine folks would be skeptical.  I wasn't, my page views were still racking up, so folks were stopping in.

TWITTER: https://twitter.com/OptioneerJM

I know it didn't work because I'm still here!!!  Almost sounds like a hoax to me.  Except I was the one spearheading it, so I know I was keen.   Yes, I did say it was an experiment, so I did do that: along with stepping outside my comfort zone.  Every once in a while on social media, you have to test the loyalty of your followers.  Not in a way that there are winners or losers, but in a way to see how one-sided my support of others may be.  There truly was a win:  I learned a lot and think it is worth pursuing again, another day, another time.  I have other fish to fry and cliches to come up with.

RENT BLOG SPACE here

Yes, I do have some assembled loyalty, perhaps founded upon curiosity.  Some visited.  Many more stayed away.

Now, what am I up to?  Well, the cup is half full and don't give up baby, when one door closes another one opens.. quality goes to those that wait.. all that jazz.

What evolved from trying to sell a pre-packaged brand (of note, January 13, 2016 ~ this is a missed marketing opportunity) is this latest idea:  why would a brand place only ... or RESTRICT their product placement solely in the hands of GOOGLE ads?  Why not do the same as most advertising purchasing is done:  carefully researched market targetted media, usually traditional media such as television, radio and print -- instead, you find, or you're pitched to place an ad, your logo, or video on blogs that you find would reach your target audience or expand your brand?

Serious inquiries only:  optioneerjm@gmail.com

I'm sniffing out any maverick spending out there that may want a big BANG for their buck: specific placement, aesthetic layout, established audience and so on in the world of ROI (return on investment).

Yep folks, less brazenly than this post, you can place an ad on this blog at "wholesale prices".  Cut out the middle man or woman as it may be.

TRIBUTE TO:  David Bowie RIP January 10, 2016

You pay the big bucks for the imagination, why aren't they tapping into new avenues to get their message out?  Did someone say social media?  You be the judge, or the buyer, or a renter.
