Rants within discussions: 2016 and the year ahead in social media?

Jeannette Marshall I'm starting to get excited for Christmas with all my kids going to be there Kyle Desiree-marie Chantal and Kelsey  ...... who are likely posting at each other with a lot of humour and outstanding memories we made together. A tough benchmark for many families to follow or at least adopt that principle on humour being the saviour of a family's soul

Anyone wanna ‪#‎Follow‬ me on ‪#‎Twitter‬ ? Please do and mention‪#‎bestofeverything‬ @optioneerJM Lara Jean Marshall <--- can you not help but notice that THAT is NOT my name! They attempted to intuitively insert something, they are getting it all wrong. The air is their development but the water is my substance.

Jeannette Marshall I'm trying a couple of experiments, one being creating a new standard of #hashtag called #thebestofeverything where anyone, any where, any religion, any color, any intellect can share what they think that matters. Rather than one spun from the media, social media ships, but by any user on social media. Let the people speak and tell you what the world is currently thinking it matters: #bestofeverything is not fueled by any brand engine or internet powerhouse. We can see if the integrity equals the numbers for staying at the top in #hashtag trending. Yes, it is the brainchild of: http://optioneerjm.blogspot.ca/.../a-social-media-brand... that's all

Jeannette Marshall Commenting doesn't add value to your personal brand, I've discovered. I'm starting to wonder if some bloggers are poaching ideas from the "soon to be known" to attempt to keep ahead of the curve. True integrity and outstanding citizenship should be the ONLY criteria to climb to the top of the heap of junk. Where the jewels eventually resurface .... or remain.

The above is an original, no bout doubt about it.  It isn't slick, it is hand drawn, hand written, hand colored with the reproduction values are highlighted by how far graphics have come within #socialmedia.  The reigning soveignty exhausted and fallen behind being words has now been substituted for images.  The formulative phase of thought+image has been around for at least five years and created, used, shared by the early adopters of #socialmedia like any founding member or fringe member #usGuys #bestofeverything ....

If you are going to start the social media basics you had better practice or know how to merge quotes with images.  They have evolved and some keep recirculating long long after it may have originated.

The BEST ones are the ones that have a recognizable figure saying something so great that it was BOTH the sizzle and the steak:  so very hard to come to in the world of advertising these days.  The resources displaced by big talkers and even bigger marketers.

The humongous of the originators of social media Guy Kawasaki  is now relegated to the back of the room, not even a crown.  He is the perfect example of how fledgling social media truly was when they considered "someone who knew someone GREAT that could write and market himself so well" as one of the rock stars of social media at the beginning.

MASHABLE is the NEW demigod of social media.  Not a day will go by on Twitter without a half dozen to dozen posts that people stand up and take notice.  Brilliant and imaginable, it will continue to soar as the benchmark for blogsters to only dream of.

Imagine the former icons of technology and how far they've moved from the innovators to the early adopters in these here on now years.  They are also religated to the back room with dust long settled upon them.  They will be flabergasted and amazed that this was not their own creation:  ThingWorx is a consortium of gifted, motivated, and inspiring entrepreneurs to unfold.  They will soon the latest acronym on the stage IofT "Internet of Things"

How profound eh?  As 2015 begins to fade, so will the clambering for positioning by the manufacturers, technology drivers, social media and network steam engines, smart phones.  Emerging are the idea people.  The idea people will bow always to the King of Ideas, the guy who ate apples for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as opposed to the tooler manufacturer geek (guess who?)

The tools like smartphones, tablets, computer will continue to evolve, just no longer in the spot light of the 1990s inventions.  Now and in 2016 the enforcers of knowledge, content (whether that be educational or home economics)   will become the big brand in the not so distant future.

WIKIpedia will continue to skyrocket with sidekicks detaching themselves and creating even more super power content creation with economics.

As I have even begun attempting:  selling the brand "optioneerJM" that is sprinkled about all social media platforms.  Not in super powerful following numbers, but by scores on how your content is doing.  Klout will have to evolve to being an information provider targeted by its readers.  Not the other way around.

Linked In, Twitter, and Facebook are turning into fat birds who have bloated their own self-worth beyond anything before, are at the bottom 1/8 of the upward curb that is beginning to unfold.  Some may be investigating the impact of population trends with technology and important things to people, created by the people (tracking history, habits), for the people (the engines or innovator(s) with the tools, now reigning by "YUGELY" declined profitability

The best winners could be the governments.  At their disposal is a complete biography of just about every citizen they govern.  The really big brother stories of the 1960s is going to become closer to realities those tales evoked than any fear mongering from any fading political force because they want to appear strong, stable and a leader.

If I had the ear of the incoming President of the United States, I would suggest that they snap up Fiorina for leading their technology, as her own private fortress, without distraction by any boys network or tech club.

If it isn't Trump who is the winner, he'd have to be snapped up with a new post as the Government's "what people are thinking but too afraid to say" champion and UN Ambassador.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.
Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.

Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.

~Mother Teresa

If the government were to think that church and state have a widening gap, bring Pope Frances over to the Americas to restore faith in all humanity, not just a chosen one.

Pope Frances will continue create moments in history that will surface with the best of the most memorable.   No longer quiet, the awe inspiring, jaw dropping year of our generation's greatest humanitariun, Mother Theresa, as a Saint.  You don't want to test the power of faith and the force with which faith is restored.

Violent terorism will take a back bench behind inspiration and hope.  The machines will keep the stories of courage, leadership, and quality overshadowing the promotion of hate crimes, prejudism, nepotism, egotism, where the crumbling of the "ME GENERATION" head into attics or old folks' homes.  The "ME GENERATION" is the "HAD GENERATION" now.

The "Baby Boom" term will fall amongst the clutter of forgotten terms of identification.  The children of the younger sisters' Baby Boom big brothers and sisters tapered off with the 80s and now those children of said siblings are the greatest force behind everything:  the gas that lights the next boom called "INFORMATION" not financiacial boom and busters, not from the waves of post war population growth, information will become king.  The creators or custodians of that knowledge will be where lies the crowning glory.

If you want to participate early, jump on board.  Learn how to write, create images that inspire, are beautiful or full of awe.  To be gobbled up as medicine would for a dicease.  Eyes turn away from the balls of extremity, violence, or radicalism.  Which by the way can be on either side of the waters, in multitudes of color, or belief.

We thought that we had exorcised the evils and demons of our forerefathers and eliminated fear as our constant companion.  Faith, inspiration, motivation, learning and humanity will lead us away.

You can begin by starting to use the hashtag #bestofeverything that is uplifting, peaceful, valued be shared.  By doing so, you are taking away the force of those who have crafted what they should be, wrong often, financially motivated, creations.

You can start your own blog with a date stamp to show you WERE one of the early adopters.  Age, color, geography, faith, education aside.  One voice.  One effort.  Stamp out the rubber necking at stories of horror, greed, power, ego.

Can we?  Is it possible for us to return to the basics?

Vlogging it

Here is my second attempt at Vlogging.  I can only say one thing, I can certainly improve.  It's all about just doing it and practice makes perfect.

It is one thing to write and quite an intimidating thing to put your face and words out there in person live.

I can't say it is thrilling yet, it is invigorating to test oneself and put oneself outside of the comfort zone.

I hope to accomplish more great things by being able to share my thoughts on sales, leadership, loyalty, and social media.  From time to time, I may single out a brand and speak to it as it speaks to me.

We're all here together to learn.  So if you have any comments or suggestions, I'm a sponge, ready to soak up the wisdom of many other trail brazing before me in the world of video blogging.

Tell me what you think?

Social media works

"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate."
~Oprah Winfrey

Firmly at the bottom of my social media scale has been firstly, the great people whom I am connected with.  Without people, you will go nowhere.  That lesson resonates with everyone everywhere.  It is a leadership principle and a people principle.

Social media personalities are there for the duration and the long haul.  They are never scattered, nor a politician, celebrity or brand looking for a boost in numbers.  Or more aggressively trying to innovate a hashtag (#) to trend by money or influence.  The real social media superstars make things happen and inspire others to reach out to absorb their message.

What can you do to merge with the crew and start the climb?  I would have to say, you have to adapt a "do-it-yourself" attitude immediately after you start making the connections.

"Dream on it.  Let your mind take you to places you would like to go, and then think about it and plan it and celebrate the possibilities.  And don't listen to anyone who doesn't know how to dream."
~Liza Minnelli

Only YOU can build your brand.  That is what social media tends to forge ahead by:  what resonates with you personally?  Is it something you like to do?  Do you jump up to write, take photographs, create scrumptious dishes, read, debate, view, leverage, learn, lead, quote, inspire others?

The ones who have gained followers, are heeded, invited to speak, write a blog all began somewhere near the bottom.  They had the commitment and work ethic to start at the bottom and build up what they tend to love.

They do have a photo everywhere that is recognizable because of the consistency it portrays.  Their bios can set them apart but the gracious wording with boasting humbly set aside.  The proof is there.  Simple.  It shows in the numbers.

Do you ask others or ask those you find appear to have found the secret formula on creating massive followings how they got there?  I asked one of my earliest friends within a group:  what makes you so special?  How did you get so many followers?  I pause for the holy grail or secret ingredient.  I hesitate a few minutes wondering if he will even respond.

I shouldn't have been surprised that he did respond.  These rockstars are everyone's people and they practice what they feel is relevant to those who have joined their crew.  They are self-made socialpreneurs or omnipresent everywhere it seems.

Stephen's response was mild, simple and a little amusing.  He said:  "I just show up."

Remarkable isn't it?  The best of the best are more than likely do-it-yourselfers.  They craft their home pages and bios with a dedicated eye for standing out in the crowd, with simply an self-image that presents a "normal" person and a short concise bio.

I'm sure if I had a private conversation with each and every one of them, there would be that common thread of being true to themselves and not the narcissistic personality many off the mark will identify them to be when they are far from the truth.

What is certain is that singing is not merely modulating a song by means of the voice: we sing and we celebrate the beauty that we can grow and live every day. If you want to sing and give emotions to those who are listening, you must have something to tell through your singing; you have to use singing like an instrument to tell something.
~Andrea Bocelli

You see, friends.  The true, great, superstars are people.  They have uncovered their true calling and hitched on to a passion that was bubbling below the surface just waiting to escape as more than steam.

The overnight, viral campaigns that catch on are fleeting.  The social media super stars show up daily, evening, morning or the wee hours.  They stroll through the information, images, quotes, knowledge to disperse with and share.  Some have become lucky enough to be travel bloggers or convention speakers for sums of money.

I'm not sure who really has made a bucket load of money from their notoriety.  Money seems to fall far below on the list of must haves when they are gaily enjoying what floats their boat:  a passion, a cause, a knowledge morsel, travel, writing, creativity.

A Bad Hair Day by Aaron Karnovski on Fivehundredpx

It isn't really who you know either.  That eventually works itself out.  People recognize authenticity, a magnetic force that other talented people gravitate to.  If you are good at something, it is usually because you love it.

The irony of being this do-it-yourselfer is that I am not really an artist nor a photographic genius.  I simply think my eyes seek beauty.   It could be artistic, word, graphic, illustration, advertisement, photographic objects or people.  I just love looking at visuals.  I like when my brain softly says:  "huh".  That translates to my internal mechanism that something I am looking or reading is striking.

The challenge of being a do-it-yourselfer is balancing the real world, life, family, work, friends with the online one.  Some may believe it is an addiction of sorts.  I've never missed a birthday celebration, work event, training schedule, taking my dog for a walk or cooking dinner.

My social media world continually inspires, amazes and pleases me immensely.  I can turn off the computer, I don't stop to do selfies everywhere, and take pleasure in many offline interests.  I garden, I paint, I text kids, have phone conversations with friends and family or meet with them over dinner or a coffee.

Life outside social media is more enjoyable.  I have discovered ways to continue my gardening as a fledgling green thumb, I recycle things daily with my blue box, I commute to work and see things with new eyes.  I try adding a new menu element I wouldn't have otherwise tried.  I volunteer to do a gingerbread house for my team at work.

I have at my disposal the wonderment of the outside world, embellished by the knowledge and discoveries I find online.

That, my friends, is the secret to an online social media personality.  Be authentic, read, watch, listen or view what rocks your world.  As you continually fill your mind and brain with wonderful things, your world and karma evolves to attract only those great things.

"How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and sheroes."

A social media journey

Who knew what would follow when I launched this blog optioneerJM five years ago?  I remember how it came about:  My mentor and friend Donna deMan insisted that I get on board Linked In to introduce myself, open myself to career opportunities, reconnect with those I had lost touch with, and get "with it" on social media.

Linked In

Like anything to do with social media, you don't just be there.  You have to embrace it, blend in and become active to gain the value it presents.  So I did.  I had quite a few years experience in sales and digital printing, so it wasn't too surprising that I hovered around sales groups before I jumped in.  After all, it was pretty underwhelming.  All I had to do was write about my opinion on matters others were embraced in.  What happened was, my opinion was valued, my experiences I shared were welcome.  I started to meet people.  One of the first was Mike Lehr when I commented on career advice.  Not before long, we were messaging and exchanging information after he voted and commended my comments..... he seemed to know what he was doing and had a esteemed background in intuition and even authored books on the topic.

Shortly after, in a Digital Printing group I connected with Sandy Hubbard.  We had similar careers with printing and magazines so it wasn't surprising that she became a mentor and champion.  Sandy was a publisher and writer and encouraged my viewpoint so I thought "what the heck" I will start a Blog about sales and draw from what I had commented on in Linked In to get started.  The thought was, if it is good enough for sales types, it may be good enough for the whole world wide web.

What drove my curiosity was why was there such a fuss about "Social Media"?  I admit I was skeptical and stubborn:  I didn't want to be associated with or thought of as a time waster online.  Donna encouraged and convinced me to get on Twitter.  I had come up with the pseudonym optioneerJM by then, getting a lot of direct questions what an optioneer was?  The explanation seemed natural and easy to answer:  "An optioneer provides multiple solutions then executes to solve the problems, while gaining buy in from others."  It seemed logical:  option with re-engineering to come up with option-eer combining both.

Twitter

I hung my handle on Twitter, linking my blog, and primarily using it as a gateway to drive attention to my blog.  It became so much more.  Sandy Hubbard was a pro and tucked me onto her side and showed me around:  First stop was a group of early adopters on social media called #USGuys.  I was thrilled.  I was starting to get some momentum to my thinking that if you can't wrap your head around something, find out why that is.  Research, read, absorb.  So I did.  Thankfully, they opened their arms and let me into the club (it isn't a club by any stretch of the imagination).  A group of people that were not only had a large following individually, but also many had started to leverage their knowledge to launch their own expertise as business opportunities.

My dog Buddy

Facebook

Admittedly, I did have a Facebook profile for family and friends AND GAMES.  I was uncomfortable letting others know that I fooled around on Farmville and Yoville, with the exception of my sister and good friend Allison Tasker.  What amazed me was on the page, the ladies whom I connected with didn't just share crates of vegetables to expand your farm.  I noticed how they shared recipes, quotes, sayings and found causes like domestic abuse, bullying and missing children.  I was turning my head around on the expansive reach of Facebook, collaborating with my new found friends from across the globe.

I had the optioneerJM persona established by then, thus I expanded to include a Facebook Page.  I started to think that some of my tweets that were nuggets captured and shared may be of value by encompassing them on Facebook.  I discovered that many of my awesome friends from Twitter were active on Facebook and it was more intimate.  Many of my friends, like Joseph Gier and Libby Sweiger were active on Facebook and I got to learn and appreciate more about them as people by their posts.

I was a keener by now.  No holding back.  In fact, I was a social media enthusiast.  So much so, I became a social media Evangualist, singing its praises and the wonderment of all that could be gained.  Mike Lehr caught on, set up his profiles, with me giving him hints in the background.  Almost immediately, not only was Mike embraced, he was guest blogging for some of the gurus from #USGuys.  Mike didn't need to be convinced that it was a marvelous adventure.  In fact, Mike's Blog was my first of a select few to follow of Blogs I followed, credited as such on my blog.  He was very kind and reciprocated.  That taught me one of the first lessons:  help others while being conscious of whether they appreciate it and acknowledge it by sharing back.

I was a late bloomer to Google Plus, but the logic stood out.  I applied the same reasoning of why I used Google's BlogSpot to host my Blog.  If you want to increase your presence in social media, you can't go wrong with putting big brother Google behind your efforts.

I can't remember how I stumbled upon Pinterest, but it became an addition for my visual appetite.  I loved looking at wonderful photographs, art and images.  There is an abundance of stimuli there.  Along with recipes, how to, decorating, quotes and a multitude of many other things.  I got on board and immediately recognized what a great way to capture the things you loved and those you admired under a synopsis called Pinterest.

I like images and quotes.  I started to marry the two, sometimes creating my own quote, other times borrowing from the well known or obscure.  Regardless, the visuals are usually beautiful . I play with InstaGRAM a little, admittedly, mostly to see what my kids are sharing.  It is fun, flamboyant and brilliantly impulsive.  I still keep it toned down compared to the others, but there is a lot to be said about the plethora of images there.  It was a no brainer to get on to Tumblr for the same reason.  I can discover fantastic images, to be shared on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.

I'm honored to have made a lot of talented and remarkable connections.  Every day I log on any of the sites, I learn something and more than likely share something else.  My reputation and brand as optioneerJM has evolved from that.  Quite simple.  Very remarkable.

I will be writing a Gratitude blog shortly to personalize and thank those that helped and inspired me to be a better social media citizen to commemorate my five years on social media, starting May 2010.

Orange you glad I picked orange?

I have implemented and included the color and fruit orange into my theme and as a key identifier or logo to be associated with @optioneerJM.  My blog is a bit behind my business cards that adopted the image several months ago.

I love the idea of the orange because it is so appealing to me and likely many others.  It depicts freshness, health, colorfulness, while being memorable.  I also associate the color orange with a positive vibe.

In my brief research, I discovered that in psychology, Orange is the color of social communication and optimism .... amazingly spot on to who I want to be associated with.

Reading on, I learned that the color orange radiates warmth and happiness.  It relates to "gut reaction' or "gut instinct".  Orange also offers emotional strength in difficult times.  It helps us to bounce back from disappointment, despair and assists in the recovery from grief.  The color orange radiates warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy and stimulation of red with the cheerfulness of yellow.

So, why do I put so much emphasis on the color orange?  It is because I read a long time back that the colors you select in your logo are important clues to longevity and success.  Imagine that?

According to Wikipedia:

Color psychology is the study of color as a determinant of human behavior. Examples include quantification of individual color preferences[1] and investigating the relationship between shirt color and match outcome in English football.[2] However, the interface between color and environmental stimuli is a highly complex interface and one which is open to the influence of a large number of factors. In addition, there are a number of key reasons why the principle of caveat emptor should prevail in regard to color psychology, especially in regard to information about colour psychology found in mainstream media and popular culture.[3]

The color psychology of orange is optimistic and uplifting, rejuvenating our spirit. In fact orange is so optimistic and uplifting that we should all find ways to use it in our everyday life, even if it is just an orange colored pen that we use.
Orange brings spontaneity and a positive outlook on life and is a great color to use during tough economic times, keeping us motivated and helping us to look on the bright side of life.

Here are a few more benefits of orange:

  • It promotes enthusiasm for life
  • Relates to adventure and risk-taking
  • Inspires confidence, competition and independence
  • Those inspired by orange are always on the go!
  • Those who love orange are extroverted and uninhibited
  • Orange lovers tend to show off
  • Orange stimulates two-way conversations
  • Orange gets people thinking and talking!

Well, I certainly hope my blog is uplifting, optimistic and spirited.  It is going to be an adventure to see whether it brings all the fun it promises.  Thank YOU for joining me on the ride!

VISUALs attract clicks

I've written on the topic before:  why you should use visuals to capture clicks by drawing attention to your article, quote, post or social media profile.  Why?  People love looking at beautiful, funny, lovely images.

One great advantage for viral sharing is its ability to have a domino effect.   Spin offs abound from it, just like "Caturday" instead of Saturday for those who want to be in the know:  just tweet or share an image with a cartoon or cute cat or kitten with the #hashtag #caturday and watch it roll ... reTweet, Shared.

Google Plus (G+) is, in my opinion, the best social media avenue to share images.  There is no clutter, the images are shown in size larger than Facebook or Twitter.  In fact, in Twitter, you have to click on it to see the image.  That is perfectly fine because words are your ammunition on Twitter.  Enhance your words or quote with an image and hashtag it and you will likely have it RT'd and shared even more.  People tend to like to philosophize when they are surfing social media sites and visual stimulation attracts the eyes and then the heart.

Pinterest is THE place where people go looking primarily for stimulation -- whether it be a tip, trick or treat -- the images attract the viewers attention and pretty much guarantee it will be clicked.  The better the image, the more likely it will be shared.

The following are top picks from my viewers .... certainly, I chose them because I liked them ... but the endorsements that others shared them are demonstrated by the number of likes, rePINs or shares:

Animals are always a great idea to emphasize an attitude, just like this tiger has been popularized.

Babies and kids illustrate cuteness.
Even the most  skeptical hard noses, can't help be drawn into the innocence captured by others who share in adoration.

Stunning expressions, faces and humanism are popular amongst viewers.  In fact, my FACEus board on Pinterest has one of my largest following.  People are drawn to humanity, especially life's experience etched with wrinkles and profound expressions:

Doesn't a quote on wisdom just beg to go with this image?  People love this one.  There is nothing beautiful or fancy here, just mesmerizing eyes that speak of laughter and weariness from life and experience.  The next one is popular for individual people's reasons, if not for the beautiful photography and capture.

The secrets of talented, seasoned photographers may be guarded while we all get to participate in the experience simply by gazing upon a marvelous visual interpretation of the mystical innocence of youth.

Mothers with children or babies are significant in their contribution towards society.  However, a father who sheds his masculinity in his embrace of the sheer wonder of holding his child was identified by many who loved this.

Magical moments where the subjects are oblivious to a photographer capturing the essence of feeling and enable the viewer to participate as though they are there is a wonderful way that images appeal to many.

Flowers, beautiful objects and stunning photography evoke a sense of peace and inspire love for our world.   Lucky for many, it is captured to be shared for others to feast upon in its gorgeousness.

Scenery abound: trees, bridges, buildings, fields, forests, pathways and hidden gems are applauded by those who appreciate seeing new places and landscapes virtuall.  This is as good or even better because it lingers in our eyes and reaches our souls.

A burst of color explodes to grab our attention like nothing else.  I hazard to guess that the photo manipulation software "PhotoShop" was used to enhance the colors in this photo.  I think that is cheating and offensive to Mother Nature because often she doesn't need any help.

For many, who have not had the chance to touch or feel snow firsthand, the pictures of snow wonders are popular among all viewers.  Thankfully, without the cold, others can relish the sereneness and quietness that untouched nature invokes in us profoundly.

We love the sun, especially sunsets.  Waves of joy cascade over us when we visually embrace them all at once.  Visions of water attract viewers in their quest to impress.

All seasons and events are celebrated visually with stunning creativity as though we are in the pumpkin patch ourselves and allowed to pick the biggest and best one for ourselves and others to enjoy.  Our giddiness and excitement for Halloween while we scheme our costumes meant to amaze or amuse. Imagine being in this pumpkin patch in a field of orange.  We cannot quite feel the bumps and creases, yet we can conjure memories from days past where we took our time to choose the best pumpkin.  For others, it reminds us to be thankful as the time surrounded by family, friends and good cheer with great feasts upon which we bowed our heads together in prayer.

Sometimes there is no event, mystical reason or plain purpose for something to be so popular.  This is the most recent image that has been rejoiced and shared, as though the splashing is cause for a festivity or the merriment we feel by this fun image and graphic appeal to so many.

I hope you have enjoyed the combination of creative images that I have enjoyed along with so many others who have embraced them or shared -- thank you ALL!

You are welcome to join me on PINTEREST http://www.pinterest.com/optioneerjm/ to gaze upon wonderful images.  I have simply compiled the favorites from those who have agreed with me.  Photo credits are found there.

Discover your own wonders and underscore your message, blog, post, comment, quote, share, tweet, G+ with an image.  I'm confident you will be amazed at how wholeheartedly others will nod in agreement by their share.

Comments encouraged, shares applauded, subscribers rewarded and questions answered .... do you have something you would like Jeannette to answer?  You may be surprised when she devotes an entire Blog to it.
